Buckingham Palace have announced that His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.

The Community Council join with people around the world in mourning his loss.

There will be a book of condolence available for anyone who wishes to sign it in the office at Trane Cemetery from 10am – 2pm Monday to Thursday and 10am – 1pm on Friday from Monday 12th April.

There are no changes to opening times over Christmas, or during the level 4 Coronavirus restrictions.

The Cemetery is open 8am to 4pm (last access 3:30pm) Monday to Saturday and 10am to 4pm (last access 3:30pm) on a Sunday.

The aim of the 15 Minute Heritage Grant is to help to connect communities with the heritage on their doorstep. The programme is jointly funded by Cadw ‒ the historic environment service of the Welsh Government.

Connecting with heritage and nature can be critical for maintaining personal mental and physical wellbeing.

Tonyrefail & District Community Council have been successful in obtaining grant funding to allow us to install noticeboards within our community to remind people of the heritage on their doorsteps whilst encouraging people to walk and explore their local areas further.

We are grateful to the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Cadw and the Welsh Government for their support in this project.

 

Tonyrefail & District Community Council is seeking to appoint a temporary assistant cemetery operative on a fixed term basis to the 31^st March 2021.

Due to the potential impact of self-isolation upon the smooth running of the cemetery we are seeking to appoint someone with the ability to work flexibly to meet the needs of the Council. You will be guaranteed a minimum of 16 hours work a week, with the potential for additional hours (up to 37) should the need arise.

This is a physically demanding post, with most of your working day being made up of excavating graves, preparing the graves for burials, and then backfilling. There will be heavy lifting of equipment, such as generators, pumps and grave shoring.

You will also be expected to undertake other duties related to the upkeep of the Cemetery, such as emptying the litter bins, cleaning the toilets, litter picking and the like.

There will be an element of flexibility around your working hours, with a rota being provided to you a week in advance.

If you are willing to work hard, in all weather conditions and believe you can treat the Cemetery with the respect and dignity it deserves then we look forward to hearing from you.

It was a very different Remembrance event this morning at Trane Cemetery. There was no parade or service and only a small number of people in attendance. We thank the public for respecting the firebreak rules which were in place.

The service was pre-recorded by Tonyrefail Parish and broadcast on Youtube at 10:45am to coincide with the 2 minutes silence at 11am. We would like to thank them, and the Royal British Legion for their efforts.
